Are You and Your Dog
Guilty?
While you
are very unlikely to do a poop in public - your dog will and
has! If you leave the poop and don't clear it up - you and your dog
are guilty of making your neighborhood a less pleasant and safe
place to be.
It is not nice
for anyone to get dog mess on their shoes or that children playing in
the park might get it on their hands and clothes. But that's not the
half of it - dog mess often contains canine diseases and parasites
which puts children and other dogs at risk.
Nowadays many
counties, countries and states have “pooper scooper” laws that
require that dog owners clean up after their pets. But law or
no law dog owners should have the consideration to clean up after
their dogs so that other people out for a stroll do not have to
maneuverer around piles of poop.
If you see a dog do
their business and the owner doesn't see it, politely ask the owner
to clear it up. Poop in a community area is not pleasant so if
you don't mind, carry some extra bags in case you see some dog mess
(that your dog didn't do) and clear it up, safe in the knowledge
that you are leaving that place cleaner than when you
arrived.
Nowadays, there are
all sorts of bags, pooper scoopers and contraptions that you can buy
and use to clear up after your dog so there is really no excuse not
to do it.
If you don't want to
spend money, the best thing you could do is recycle plastic shopping
bags for clearing up dog poop. Its very common practice to do
this. Pick up the mess with a plastic bag, tie a knot in the top
and throw it in the nearest waste bin (preferably a dog waste
bin).
A good tip is to use bread
bags (this is what we use for
our own dog) because they don't have any annoying holes that plastic
shopping bags sometimes have, and they are just the right
size. If you don't buy pre-packaged bread then ask your friends
or neighbors if you can recycle their bread bags.
Clearing up your dog's
poop will help ensure the continuing beauty and health of your
neighborhood so there really is no justification in not clearing up
your dog's mess.
